David Halberstam (1934–2007) was the author of 20 books, the last 14 of which have been national best-sellers. Know thy enemy

Nations at war like to demonize the leader of their enemy as part of propaganda. This is fine as long as the nation's leaders themselves do not believe in their own propaganda, but instead do their homework and get to truly understand their enemy. This crucial step was missing from America's policy makers during the Vietnam War. Every president involved; JFK, LBJ, to Nixon, did not bother to fully understand Ho Chin Minh, the leader of the Vietnamese Communists. This is why books like this one are so important; written by private individuals, they offer unbiased, insightful glimpses at the other's leader.

This book by David Halberstam is one of his less read books, but being so short in length, it is probably the most focused of his books. This book describes the life of Ho, both private and public, his role in the Vietnam War, and his relations with other world leaders and governments, both before, during, and after the Vietnam War. The treatment of his private life is shorted at the expense of covering more of his public life.

The book does a good job of describing his personal traits that made him a leader: patience, self-sacrifice, humility, and foresight. The book also does a good job of contrasting his personality with others he encountered in battle; Western generals, Western soldiers, and Western politicians. The book is also worth reading because it offers a viewpoint of the Vietnam War as seen by Vietnamese, specifically Ho and his leadership.

I highly recommend reading this book; it is short and easy to read. It is also impartial and straight-to-the-point history, as expected from an author like David Halberstam.

More a statement on the mistake of U.S. involment than bio.

This book was less about Ho Chi Minh, and more about why the United States should not fight him. This reader was hoping for a more detailed discussion of Ho's life, his philosophy, etc. This book does over some insights into Ho Chi Minh's character and life, but I was left with the feeling that the book was written for other purposes. The book was originally published in 1970, a year after Ho's death so the book also smacks of the eulogy, glorification of the dead variety.

About the Author

Morten Tolstrup is the Director of TE Wireless Group, International Service & Solutions. Prior to working for LGC/ADC/TE he spent 13 years in a number of different engineering positions with a mobile operator in Denmark, mainly focusing on indoor RF planning, tunnels, Airports, Pico-cells and micro cells. Over the past 15 years Morten has presented more than 50 papers and workshops at conferences around the world.

Exactly as the authors says: Not for scientists

We all know there's no avoiding the complex math behind the engineering; it serves a purpose right? But if you want to get a real 'hands-on', practical and with very well simple graphics and visuals in the world of DAS and Indoor systems, this is the book for you. The author is very humble yet to the point, making a very effective transition between the complicated to the "making sense". Moreover, having been in the world of CDMA and CDMA2000 and EVDO for years now, the initial topics on GSM, UMTS are a big plus, especially with LTE here now to stay! This book is well worth the price. Any DAS or In building RF Eng needs this one as part of his/her shelf resources.

Covers all the bases

This is a great book that I would highly recommend to any DAS engineer. As the other reviewer mentioned, it is written with an engineer in mind, not a scientist. Any office that works on these type of systems would be well served by having a copy of this book. I like that it starts at square one with basic repeater driven systems and evolves to cover advanced designs like elevator shafts and subway tunnels. This makes it of value to the new guy on the team as well as the seasoned veteran.

This book was a very good reference book to see another engineer's view on indoor radio planning. I have used this book as companion/reference to see different angles on indoor RF planning.

DISAPPOINTED-BEWARE- MIGHT NOT BE WHAT YOU EXPECT IF YOU'RE A KING COLLECTOR!

Despite AMAZON's inflated retail value for this book ($125), and selling price of $91.25, it is NOT, that is, it is NOT the signed limited edition that I was fully expecting. It is the unsigned limited edition released at $75 from Gauntlet Press. The 125 copy Signed Numbered Edition (signed by Brian Henson, Jeff Beal, Jeff Hayes, Michael Wright, Lee Romaire, Bill Haber, Sam Nicholson, and Richard Christian Matheson) is indeed $125 from Gauntlet Press. Collectors should visit Gauntlet for exact details of this release befor they buy. [...] Moreover, as a collectable, the book was not received in mint condition (dented corner).

King + Matheson = Fantastic!

For those of us who watched the 2006 television adaptation of Stephen King's short story, "Battleground", on a then little-known TV channel called TNT, this volume is a welcome commemorative collection of memories and new information. And, even for those who haven't seen the movie, this book is a portal into an exciting moment in television history. Edited by the celebrated author and screenwriter who wrote the script, STEPHEN KING'S BATTLEGROUND is a riveting compilation of the many facets of television movie production. Mr. Matheson begins by introducing us to his process and ushering us to the next part of the book, the original short story by Stephen King from which the script was adapted. Interviews with TNT's Vice President and Head of programming followed by interviews with the film's Executive Producer and Director explain the intricacies and difficulties of getting a film project underway and completed. The text of the full shooting script precedes interviews with the Visual Effect Supervisor, Special Makeup Effects Designer, Producer, Composer, and an interview with the star of the film, John Hurt. A comprehensive collection of storyboards fills out the last section of this huge volume, which concludes with a listing of the full cast and crew. It is amazing how much collaboration and sweat goes into the making of a television movie, and a treat to peek behind the curtain to see how it is done. This is a gorgeous, oversized book, filled with photos and inside information revealed for the first time.
